About the artist

Hello! I’m Sarah, a Birmingham based amateur fine artist-illustrator-creator. I’m really excited to be taking part in Art for the Earth for the second year running and for the opportunity to create another piece of work for such a brilliant and vital cause.

About the art

"Golden Hour" aims to capture the final moments of a sunset before it dips below the horizon. The painting invites the viewer to appreciate the natural beauty of this fleeting yet incredibly unique moment in time. Climate change can have both direct and indirect effects on sunsets, influencing their appearance and the overall experience of viewing them. For example, increased levels of air pollution can alter the colours and clarity of sunsets. While some pollutants can enhance the vividness of sunsets by scattering light, excessive pollution can lead to hazy skies that obscure the view and diminish the overall beauty of the sunset. Unpredictable weather patterns, including increased cloud cover, storms, and changes in atmospheric conditions can affect the frequency and quality of clear skies needed for optimal sunset viewing. The simple yet profound experience of watching a sunset can offer a range of wellbeing benefits, enhancing both mental and emotional health.
