About the artist
Hi I am Isla, a full time employee of Edinburgh Instruments, a Mother and a caring daughter of her Farmer Father who has had dementia for nearly 9 years now. I studied at Edinburgh College of Art over 20 years ago where I gained my BA Hons in Art and Design. I have always dabbled in art and craft but a busy life got in the way, until a few years ago. I picked back up my paint brushes and got serious about painting and drawing again. It’s a great means of escapism… I would fully recommend giving it a go yourself! I love to recycle furniture and help charities where I can. One day I just stumbled across this fantastic group. So here I am and I hope you enjoy all our efforts and want to help out too!

About the art
Mixed Media painting of South Uist, just one of the prettiest Islands in Scotland. I wanted to capture the turquoise waters and white sands that the Hebrides is well known for. South Uist is considered the best place in the UK for the aquatic plant Slender Naiad, which is a European Protected Species. Nationally important populations of breeding waders are also present, including redshank, dunlin, lapwing and ringed plover. The island is also home to greylag geese on the lochs, and in summer corncrakes on the machair. Otters and hen harriers are also seen. As well as the beautiful wildlife, South Uist has hectares of machair, bog, freshwater lochs and Heather moorland that just adds to the landscapes ever changing colours.
